Mike Appel

FOUNDER

Since 1997, Mike Appel has helped thousands of families transform.

A native of Boston who grew up in the treatment space, Appel embarked on a renowned career as an independent interventionist working with at-risk individuals and families in the trenches of crisis. His maverick perspective on long-term holistic treatment revolutionized the industry, and made CCM the standout leader in family systems-based models of care.

Appel’s greatest joy is witnessing families change and seeing individuals struggling with substance abuse become happier, healthier people. As someone with deep experience of the devastating consequences of the family diseases of alcoholism and addiction.

Appel has walked the road to recovery and knows what it takes to create sustainable outcomes for all involved. His devotion to his clients and colleagues has earned him an impeccable reputation for facilitating the best possible care available.  After 25 years, Appel is the man people call when their loved one is in crisis. His ability to navigate highly volatile situations with a relaxed yet responsive demeanor and absolute discretion has made him a prominent and sought-after practitioner in the field of recovery and mental health.

Although CCM has grown into a world-class organization beyond his wildest dream, Appel is still most grateful and happy when working directly with individuals who are struggling and supporting them on the road to wellness.

In addition to his work with CCM, Appel is the President of Sobi, Inc, a non-profit. He is proud of his work developing The Substance Abuse Diversion Initiative of Lowell (SADIL), a groundbreaking program that encouraged law enforcement officials to divert chemically dependent individuals into treatment modalities instead of jail.

When not working, Appel is busy writing a book on addiction and family systems as well as mentoring up and coming professionals. He enjoys quality time with his family in Miami and Boston. He has a Master’s in counseling from Cambridge College.
